Mother Tongue and Cultural Identity
on Wednesday, 22 April at 7 p.m. Leopold Museum Museumsquartier 1070 Vienna
A multimedia performance of the Tale „Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves,‰ featuring the Elevenchor of the Vienna Boys‚ Choir, will be introduced by explanatory remarks and followed by a reception.
„Talespin‰ was inspired by the English notion of „spinning a tale‰ and combines traditional folk tales from around the world with original music and art in live performances. „Talespin‰ enjoys discovering and „Talespinning‰ stories from all over the world. Stories are reflections of the hopes and values of every culture and reveal human characteristics shared by all. For more information, please see www.talespin.eu
The „Mother Tongue and Cultural Identity‰ project encourages students aged 10-18 to submit an original work of art (music, performance, literature, or fine art) that expresses the author‚s mother tongue and cultural identity.
The project will culminate in a Gala event in February 2010 and is organized by „Talespin‰ in cooperation with UNIS Vienna, the Vienna School Board (Stadtschulrat), the Vienna International School, and with the support of the City of Vienna, the U.S. Embassy Vienna, and Leopold Museum.
Please register your participation to the kick-off event by Tuesday, 21 April by contacting Ms. Elisabeth Waechter, Chief Visitors Service, United Nations Information Service Vienna, at elisabeth.waechter@unvienna.org.
